This Sunday, August 12, at 4 p.m., KUVO’s performance series “On Stage” presents the 23-year old Spanish trumpeter/vocalist Andrea Motis, captured at the Vail Jazz Festival.

She’s just finishing the U.S. leg of her 2018 summer tour, but audiences worldwide are catching on to all that this young player brings to her craft. She was mentored by Joan Chamorro of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, but in just a few years, she’s contributed to eight albums and a solo project (Emotional Dance, 2017, Impulse! Records). For her visit to Colorado, she’s on the road with saxophonist Joel Frahm. She says trumpet is her first instrument, which she plays relaxed and confidently. Her subtle alto vocal phrasings are featured on her latest release. On stage, she treats the audience to swing, bop, original compositions, and the standards.

It’s a new voice in jazz, Andrea Motis with Joel Frahm, recorded this summer as part of the Vail Jazz Festival at Vail Square. Don’t miss KUVO’s performance archive show “On Stage,” Sundays at 4:00 p.m. only on KUVO Jazz.
