Norman Provizer’s Jazz Notes
Saying goodbye to 2020 isn’t a very hard thing to do. Certainly it is a year that will be impossible to forget, a year has the potential to haunt us far into the future. Still, it is over and to celebrate you can catch Dotsero live streaming from Dazzle on Thursday, New Year’s Eve, starting at 7 pm.
Dotsero (with saxophonist Stephen Watts and Bryan Gordon on bass, Donald Young on keys, Audree Dillard on drums, Gregory Foster Gladman on guitar and Ronneka Cox on keys) is an extremely poplar crossover band and its free appearance on Thursday night should help you make through the night and the transition into 2021. After that transition actually takes place, trombonist/shell player Stafford Hunter is on stage on Saturday, January 2, streaming from Dazzle with his band Continuum also at 7 pm. That same night, Saturday, Venezuelan-born bassist Gonzalo Teppa is at Nocturne with his quintet that has Greg Harris on vibes and piano, Alex Heffron on guitar, Andrew Wheelock on drums and Ike Spivak on saxophone and flute.
Also on New Year’s Eve, KUVO is streaming sounds from the Nighttown club with noted Cleveland jazz artists such as Joe Hunter and Evelyn Wright. The performances are at 5:30 and 8:30 pm. Also on New Year’s Eve, singer Julie Monley and her trio do a live stream from 100 Nights of Jazz presented by La Cour and Classic Pianos.
