As the coronavirus continues to wend its deadly way through Colorado, everyone understands that current schedules are always subject to change. But as of this moment, there are one again options for catching live music along with that of the streaming kind.
At Dazzle at Baur’s, the live sounds include, guitarist Lionel Young on Thursday at 7 p.m. (with showing up for dinner time from 5:30 to 6 p.m.) and the 2B3 Trio with Jeff Jenkins, Mike Abbott and Mike Marlier on stage on Friday also at 7 p.m. On the streaming side of things at Dazzle, the quintet lead by drummer Maliq Wynn flows on Thursday from 8 to 9 p.m., guitarist Dave Devine and company offer their tribute to composer Ennio Morricone (who passed away on July 6) on Wednesday from 8 to 9 p.m. “The Good, the Bad and the Devine” is a project guitarist Devine has been doing for some eight years. And pianist Purnell Steen’s trio is at Dazzle at 7 p.m. on Wednesday the same day that the club streams saxophonist Rico Jones’ trio at 8 to 9 p.m. See the websites of all of clubs discussed for the details involved in attending the music live or watching livesteam concerts.
Over at Nocturne, at 6:30 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, there’s the Peter Stolzman Trio paying tribute to Chick Corea and on Friday at 6:30 and 9 p.m., it’s Ben Markley’s trio. On Saturday, drummer Alejandro Castano sets a groove with his quartet doing “Boogaloos and Vintage Jazz Funk” at 6:30 and 9 p.m., while Sunday finds pianist and professor at Metro State University Denver Dawn Clements is on stage with her band at 6:30 p.m.
Over in Lafayette, the Muse Performance Space has streaming music from the Austin Cebulske Trio on Thursday at 7 p.m., the Greg Harris Quintet at 7 p.m. on Friday and singer Heidi Schmidt on Saturday. And back in Denver, La Cour is serving up Rico Jones and Tom Amend on Thursday and the Patrick Lee Trio on Friday. That’s if the spot moves away from its temporarily closed status.
This is also City Park Jazz time and while the live events aren’t happening, the “City Park Jazz – Home Edition” presents livestream concerts from the Oriental Theater on Sundays, 6:00 to 8:00pm.
To end on a note of hope: the Dazzle schedule still lists an appearance by bassist Christian McBride’s Inside Straight Band (with Christian Sands on piano, Carl Allen on drums, Warren Wolf on vibes and Steve Wilson on saxophone). Of course, the new dates are in March. Only that is March 2021.
