This week the National Trust for Historic Preservation designated the childhood home of music legend Nina Simone as a National Treasure.

The vacant tiny three-room 88-year-old home located at Thirty East Livingston Street in Tryon, NC was one of a few homes that the singer lived in during her childhood. While living in this home Simone started playing piano at the age of three and made public performances at the Methodist Church where her father preached.

The National Trust will be seeking new protections, conduct market and feasibility studies to develop a sustainable new use for the home and start evaluating preservation needs.
