Live & Local: Arturo O'Farrill at The Lincoln Center in Fort Collins

To call Arturo O’Farrill a pianist, composer, conductor, and educator still might undersell things a bit. Or by a mile. Much of his work revolves around the Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance, a non-profit advocacy organization. He also serves as a cultural ambassador between Havana and New York. Even his native Mexico was part of his work with “Fandango at the Wall in New York,” a Grammy award-winning album spotlighting immigration and musical bridges. His newest work is a tribute to Carla Bley, his first musical boss. Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro-Latin Ensemble perform at Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, Colorado on Sunday, February 2.

The Morning Set’s Carlos Lando caught up with O’Farrill by phone to chat about what he’s up to musically, and what’s important socially.
