New Music Monday: We’re Having a Heatwave
We commence another month of weekly debuts with an array of hot sounds of the summertime led by the Toronto based saxophonist and flautist Jane Bunnett and her new all female aggregation, Maqueque (mah-keh-keh), an Afro-Cuban word defined as the spirit of a young girl. Jane is joined by drums and strings on some tracks, other songs features vocals and one selection is augmented by a brass band. Jane Bunnett And Maqueque is an exclusive jazz89KUVO advance premiere!
Another highlight is by the Virginia based drummer and jazz radio host, Jae Sinnett who releases his brand new session, Subject To Change on his very own J-Nett Music label. Jae’ is accompanied in part by the veteran multi-reeds player, Steve Wilson and the rapidly rising pianist, Justin Kauflin. We’ll also introduce the Kevin Kaska Jazz Orchestra out of Los Angeles with guest, Arturo Sandoval on trumpet, Shades of Rio is a nice blend of of mainstream, Latin and Brazilian music ideal for the Summer. We’ll add another debut or two as well on Lunchtime at the Oasis, Mondays, Noon ’til 1pm. MDT
