New Music Monday—The Beat Goes On
This week we are very pleased to receive the very anticipated follow up release by Denver’s own H2 Big Band with the talented trumpeter Al Hood and gifted pianist, composer and arranger Dave Hanson. Their new one is It Could Happen for Origin Records out of Seattle.
Staying with big bands we have received a new release by the late founder and pianist of the Jazz Crusaders, Joe Sample who in 2011 recorded with one of Germany’s best ensembles, the NDR Big Band of Hamburg. Children of the Sun features Mr. Sample on grand piano and guest Steve Gadd on drums with the NDR Big Band. Joe passed away this past September making this a posthumous launching
The extraordinary percussionist and trumpeter Jerry González who alongside his bass playing brother founded the amazing Fort Apache Band has been living in Madrid, Spain for nearly 10 years. Jerry teams up with arranger and big band director Miguel Blanco for a swingin‘ tribute to Jerry’s ground breaking group named after their beloved Bronx where the brothers González grew up. A Tribute to the Fort Apache Band arrives to us from Spain’s Youkali Music label
In addition we will share and premier new recordings by pianist-vocalist Diane Krall, her new one is Wallflower, from Los Angeles, the outstanding bassist and bandleader Henry “Skipper” Franklin offers us Two Views with Kirk Lightsey and Cecilia Coleman sharing piano duties , Calvin keys, guitar and others.
