New Music Monday: New Orleans Seasoning Continues

After our New Orleans All-Star Rhythm Revue at our signature fund raiser at Balestreri Vineyards on Saturday night, we remain in the New Orleans and Caribbean groove, after all The Crescent City is the northernmost port of entry of the Caribbean. Our highlight of the week is the brand spanking new CD by Dr. John, a tribute to his hometown and the most important figure of jazz, Louis, Armstrong.  Dr. John is accompanied by fellow New Orleans talents such as Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Terence Blanchard and Nicholas Payton as well as Arturo Sandoval and Bonnie Raitt. I predict that Ske-Dat-De-Dat: The Spirit of Satch will surely become one of 2014’s top ten recordings.  Staying in the Caribbean we’ll premiere Cuban pianist Elio Villafranca and his Jass Syncopators which blends the music of Cuba and New Orleans, a tradition for over 130 years. Caribbean Tinge was recorded live at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center, NYC.

We’ll also debut the most recent outings by the former pianist and music director for Dizzy’s touring band, Mile Longo and his Trio-Celebrates Oscar Peterson, the supremely talented trumpeter Tom Harrell’s Trip, guitar man Bobby Broom’s My Shining Hour, pianist Orrin Evans’ Liberation Blues and the jazz debut of Buddy Ebsen’s vocalist daughter, Kiki Ebsen, Scarecrow Sessions.
