New Music Monday—George Cables, Mike LeDonne, & The Baylor Project
Tune in to New Music Monday on Monday, June 14 at noon when music director Arturo Gómez debuts the following recordings among others:
“Too Close For Comfort” – George Cables
The amazing world-renown pianist’s latest recording is a showcase for the prowess of George on the piano. Cables has been a pianist of the highest caliber for over 50 years and shows no signs of slowing down even as a cancer survivor. This time out Mr. Cables chose Essiet Essiet to play bass and Victor Lewis to sit at the drums. A brilliant array of songs that include 4 originals and6 covers will have you finger snappin’ and toe-tappin’ all the way through!
“It’s All Your Fault” – Mike LeDonne
What a great project, 5 big band tracks, and 3 others with Mike’s popular Groover Quartet make for a sure-fire enjoyable project, ideal for those summer getaway adventures. Mike swings on the B-3 with a killin’ lineup of stellar musicians that includes Denver’s own Mark Patterson on trombone, Eric Alexander on tenor sax, Peter Bernstein on guitar, and Joe Farnsworth on drums among many other standouts.
“Generations” – The Baylor Project
Once again the husband-wife team, Jean and Marcus Baylor release an album that is sure to please. A fine mixture of swinging styles with an all-star cast of musicians. Some of the superlative guests are Dianne Reeves, Jazzmeia Horn, Sullivan Fortner, Kenny Garret-just to name a few. Two tracks feature strings, Jean is the lead vocalist and Marcus is the drummer, the Baylors team up to arrange all the tracks.
Every Monday from Noon until 1 pm, I debut the latest arrivals to KUVO Jazz, often ahead of their regularly scheduled release date. In addition to the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s a new or up-and-coming artist.
