New Music Monday—The Democracy Suite, Questions Left Unanswered, & Foxing Hour
Tune in for New Music Monday when we premiere three new selections on February 1, at noon:
Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra Septet: “The Democracy! Suite.” This digital only release is a platform for the septet to instrumentally express themselves in many splendored varieties of jazz, traditional, swing, gospel, bop and soul! The Democracy suite was written by Wynton Marsalis while in isolation during the Covid 19 crisis. It’s a response to the struggles facing the USA heading towards the future.
Sounds Of April & Randall (S.O.A.R.) “Questions Left Unanswered…after an extremely successful sophomore album in 2019 that earned them the “Best Group” award by the NYC Readers Jazz poll, they return with another outstanding recording. Led by vocalist April and her husband trumpeter Randall. S.O.A.R offers up a nice array of original and cover songs.
KoMaGa Trio: “Foxing Hour,” an auspicious debut by a most unique trio, Motoshi Kosako on harp, Michael Manring onbass and Chris Garcia on tabla/percussion not only formed a musically union of their superb talents, they named their trio by combining their surnames. An wonderful adventure of very unique music.
Every Monday beginning at Noon, I debut the latest arrivals to KUVO Jazz, often ahead of their regularly scheduled release date. In addition to the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s a new or up and coming artist.
