There is a new exhibition on display at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library in recognition of Black Music Month and Juneteenth. “Sister Rosetta” is an original art exhibition honoring legendary rock and roll pioneer Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Chloé Duplessis is the artist behind the exhibit. Chloé is a legally blind artist, curator, and historian committed to creating work that centers on accessibility, history, and healing. This exhibition aims to shed a light on the life and musical legacy of an artist that paved the way for generations of musicians.

Opening reception was held on June 1st and the exhibition will be on display through to the end of August 2024. A few additional events are planned for the show’s run with hopes of engaging the community and bringing them into Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s story. June 8th during the Five Points Jazz Festival, Chloé Duplessis will be joined by musician and educator Joe Mazza in hosting a family-friendly recording session in the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library. Participants will be guided through learning guitar riffs played by Sister Rosetta Tharpe and invited to sing along to a Sister Rosetta-inspired track. This pop-up recording studio is open to the public of all ages. They will also hold an interactive presentation on the trailblazing Sister Rosetta Tharpe on June 25.

Chloé Duplessis and Joe Mazza joined The Morning Set to tell us more about this original art exhibition!
