Ceci Bastida was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico where as a teenager she was a founding member of Mexican ska-punk pioneers Tijuana NO. After joining the band of Julieta Venegas as keyboardist and back-up singer, she went solo and has now released two critically acclaimed full length albums, Veo la Marea (featuring contributions by Diplo, Tim Armstrong, & Rye Rye) and La Edad de la Violencia (produced by XXXChange and Luke Top). Her song “Cuando Vulevas a Caer” was nominated for a Latin Grammy and her mix of beat and horn blasted songs with political and social commentaries on everything from immigration to the drug war has been featured on NPR, The Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone Mexico, among others. Currently, she is also a member of Mexrrissey and is collaborating with South African musician/producer Spoek Mathambo.
