interview with Shannon Galpin

It’s one of the best opening lines we’ve ever heard: “Did you hear about the woman who rode a mountain bike across Afghanistan?”  She’s Breckenridge resident Shannon Galpin.

“I went to Afghanistan in 2008 to work with women and girls, to support the voice of the women of a country that is repeatedly ranked the worst place in the world to be a woman,” said Galpin, a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, TedX Mile High presenter, activist, author and mom.

Nineteen visits to Afghanistan later, she’s chronicled her experiences in a new book, Mountain to Mountain: A Journey of Adventure and Activism for the Women of Afghanistan.  In the radio interview above she discusses her visit to the women’s prison in Kandahar province, and her cycling experience.

Her non-profit organization is www.Mountain2Mountain.org
