Mayor Michael B. Hancock delivered his 2018 State of the City Address at the Carla Madison Recreation Center. He was met with support from Governor Hickenlooper, and Former Mayor and First Lady of Denver, Wellington and Wilma Webb, as well as detractors in the form of protestors out in front of the recreation center. The Mayor’s State of the City address was kicked off by Raquel Garcia singing John Lennon’s Imagine.

Mayor Hancock started his speeach by addressing  what the city of Denver has come together to achieve during his time in office.  He also discussed Affordable Housing and the challenges associated with it, as well as the success of progress being made to help first-time homebuyers. How the unemployment rate has dropped in Denver, with over 90,000 new jobs being created.

Mayor Hancock also  touched on the plight of the Five Points community, mentioning long-time resident Norman Harris III, and the rebirth of the Rossonian Hotel with the help of Chauncey Billups, Matt Burkett, and Paul Brooks. He also talked about women and minority owned businesses and the starting up of a new Race and Social Justice initiative.
