The Colorado Music Hall of Fame (CMHF) has a new artist mental wellness initiative called “Keep the Beat.” Birthed out of the pandemic shutdown of our music industry, the CMHF adopted a new mission that includes supporting our local musicians, gig workers, stagehands, and industry personnel. Their website lists some pretty striking statistics about mental health in Colorado:

CO ranks #50 – The worst of all states for appropriate access to care for adults suffering from mental health, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation. (State of Mental Health in America, 2022)

CO ranks 7th in Highest suicide mortality rate in the country (Centers for Disease Control, 2020)

And, CO is 55% higher than the national average of adults reporting drug and alcohol use disorder (SAMHSA, 2019)

Through this grant, CMHF will provide eligible Colorado musicians, industry professionals, and gig workers with financial assistance for mental health and addiction counseling. They hope to raise awareness, share resources, and de-stigmatize the conversation around mental health and addiction within the music industry.

Scott Tobias, the Board Chair at the Colorado Music Hall of Fame, joined Carlos Lando and Abi Clark on The Morning Set on October 24 to talk about this new initiative.
