Sitting in the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio before a show begins is an edge-of-the-seat experience. Something is about to happen!

The cacophony of warm up scales, new phrases and favorite riffs ceases. The host calls the room and musicians to attention as the clock counts down to the appointed time.  “One minute!” the producer shouts, startling everyone except the host who is keenly aware of exactly how much time is left before introducing the performance to a vast, unseen audience – Radioland.

That scenario plays out three times this week, as the live music on KUVO cranks up for a busy week during Jazz Appreciation Month.  The High School / Collegiate Performance series features the jazz band from Denver South High School (Tuesday, April 10 at 7 p.m.).  Joe McBride brings a solo piano tribute to Ray Charles to the P.A.G. studio on Thursday, April 12th at 12:15 p.m. (His trio performs the full show later that evening at Dazzle at Baur’s in downtown Denver.)  And on Friday, April 13 at 6:00 p.m., screw your wig hat on tight for a one-hour set from LC’s Latin Groove Band, led by former KUVO host Larry Copeland.

KUVO Studio Club Members know the deal, and those RSVPs are flowing in to arvida@kuvo.org until there’s just no more room to squeeze you in.  Not to fear.  If there’s no room in the studio, it will sound great on the radio, however you tune in to KUVO Jazz.
