KUVO Goes Live for Jazz Appreciation Month!
KUVO appreciates and celebrates jazz every day. But since the Smithsonian Institution designated April as Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM), we’re happy to make this month an occasion to raise the flag a little higher and shine a little extra light on the jazz art form.
In Aprils past, we’ve celebrated particular artists, eras, styles and geographies of jazz. Each day this month, KUVO will feature a well-known jazz venue, club, festival or location. Each hour, the hosts will spotlight a live track from that venue. Famous jazz venues in NYC alone include the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola and Jazz at Lincoln Center, Smoke Jazz Club, The Village Vanguard, the Village Gate, and many more. Famous jazz festivals include Newport, Monterey, Montreux (Switzerland), North Sea, and New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festivals. Colorado’s famous jazz venues include Vartan’s, Telluride, Vail, Dazzle, the Gibson Jazz Parties, and of course, KUVO’s Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio.
Plus, DAILY throughout April, we’re giving away tickets to jazz shows in the area! Tune in daily to hear how you can win.
Our favorite live music party of the year is, of course, Live at the Vineyards! KUVO’s signature event is back with great music, food from the best restaurants in Denver, and a wine tasting at Balistreri Vineyards. Tickets go on sale May 22, but you can be the first to get tickets! Answer this brief survey about live music and you’ll be entered to win two VIP tickets and a backstage parking pass! The winner will be announced on May 21. You can find the full drawing rules here.
It’s no surprise that JAM is our favorite time of the year. The stated mission of the National Museum of American History’s declaration in 2001 was to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz. JAM is intended to stimulate and encourage people of all ages to participate in jazz – to study the music, attend concerts, listen to jazz on radio and recordings, read books about jazz, and more. The Smithsonian website has links to posters, resources for students and teachers, a directory of Jazz Societies, archives to previous years’ performances, articles, blog posts and more!
Through April, KUVO will be turning up the music and keeping it LIVE! We hope to see you at the show!
