At age 91, with new releases, top honors and widespread acclaim, it seems like Tony Bennett has “the world on a string.”  But it hasn’t always been easy for the kid from Astoria, Queens, New York.

Early successes were dragged down by the rush to pop and rock music in the 60s and 70s, before Bennett found himself again.  The great songs of the 20s, 30s and 40s, that’s Bennett’s songbook, and it seems like the rest of us have come around to Bennett’s way of thinking.

All this week, September 4 – 8, KUVO’s Victor Cooper is spotlighting the music of Tony Bennett.  That’s weekday mornings, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on KUVO Jazz.
