Hats off to Dawn Clement, the incoming artistic director for the Centrum Jazz Port Townsend, Washington Jazz program. She succeeds bassist and bandleader John Clayton. He steps down after 20-plus years in the role, organizing and mentoring students for a week in late July each year. (SOURCE: Centrum Jazz Port Townsend)

On Friday, August 9 on the Concord Label, Milton Nascimento and Esperanza Spalding release their long-awaited collaboration, simply called “Milton + esperanza.” They’ve been friends since the early 2010s, and the project marks nearly a decade since the Brazilian singer-songwriter was in the studio. The music was recorded mostly in Rio with Spalding’s core band and Brazilian players, and includes originals, protest tracks, and also covers the Beatles and Michael Jackson. Guests include Dianne Reeves, Shabaka Hutchings, Elena Pinderhughes, Paul Simon, Wayne Shorter’s wife Carolina, and others. (SOURCE: https://Concord / Milton + esperanza)
