Jazz in the Key of “Wonder” | Sep 16

This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the 7 Grammy nominations and four wins for the Stevie Wonder album called his best work and one of the greatest of all time, “Songs in the Key of Life.” The music from that album accompanied by other musical treats anchor our special session, “Jazz in the Key of Wonder” to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the GrooveJazz Rendezvous on KUVO, Saturday September 16 at 8:00pm.

It’s a special presentation of the music of Stevie Wonder covered by such contemporary smooth jazz artists as Boney James, Eric Marienthal, George Benson, Norman Brown, Shilts, Grover Washington, Jr., Peter White and Larry Coryell and others. George Benson and Herbie Handcock were among the artists heard in tracks on “Songs in the Key of Life.”  Stevie’s very first album for Motown was titled, “The Jazz/Soul of Little Stevie,” that was more instrumental arrangements than jazz and he later released “Eivets Rednow” with plenty of jazz harmonica. And in 2008, rumors swirled that Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones were considering a jazz project, still to be realized.
