It’s a special Birthday Celebration Show for Hazel Miller at City Park Jazz
It’s a special Birthday Celebration Show for Hazel Miller at City Park Jazz on Sunday, June 30!
Hazel’s arrival in Denver circa 1984 was an accident of fate. But as the supremely gifted singer’s induction into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame indicates, her unplanned move to the state was a lucky break for everyone involved.
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Miller exhibited her musical gifts from a young age. At sixteen, she served as the opening act for none other than the self-proclaimed Hardest Working Man in Show Business, James Brown, and did likewise for soul icon Al Green in 1971, when she was a senior in high school. But rather than jumping straight into a music career, she married and began raising a family.
Hazel Miller was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame on June 10, 2023.
Hazel Miller has a reputation for “Bringing it” whether the event is a club setting, concert, festival, or non-profit fundraiser. Hazel has toured North America, Europe, the Far East, the Middle East, and Central America.
Miller is not just a great singer; “She is a force of nature!” quotes the Rocky Mountain News. Her voice has been called “stunning, moving, and powerful.” Hazel has been a sought-after performer in Colorado for more than three decades. The Hazel Miller Band was formed more than 2 decades ago. Hazel Miller and the Collective renamed themselves in 2020. The band performs an eclectic blend of Jazz, R&B, Blues, and original music. The band’s music is designed to make the audience dance and sing along. They play the music that excites and involves the listener.
A great highlight of 2015 was Ms. Miller’s singing of the national anthem at the inauguration of Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, on January 13, 2015. Later that night, the Governor’s Inaugural Concert featured the Lumineers, String Cheese Incident, Big Head Todd, and the Monsters with Ms. Miller.
Hazel Miller and the Collective is a highly popular and in-demand band in Colorado and beyond that has played City Park Jazz many times. They are a perennial favorite of the City Park Jazz community! The band, consisting of Brian Mikulich on drums, Cody Carbone on guitar and lead vocals, Coco Brown on lead vocals, Dana Marsh on keys, Jeff Nathanson on sax and EWI, and Rich Lamb on bass guitar and vocals, has been playing together for over a decade, making them a tight-knit and experienced group. Come out and join the community at City Park Jazz on Sunday, June 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.
