Interview: Emmet Cohen
Emmet Cohen visited with KUVO’s Susan Gatschet during his national tour to discuss his new release “Future Stride,” music education, and the power of jazz to bring people together.
Multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer Emmet Cohen is in the vanguard of his generation’s advancement of music and the related arts.
Cohen is the 2019 winner of the American Pianists Association’s highest award, the Cole Porter Fellowship, a competition that comes with a prize of $50,000 and a recording contract with Mack Avenue Records. He’s also the force behind the Masters Legacy Series, an ongoing set of recordings and interviews honoring legendary jazz musicians.
In addition to leading the Emmet Cohen Trio, he is a member of Christian McBride’s trio Tip City, the Ali Jackson Trio, and the Herlin Riley Quartet. He also performs regularly with Benny Golson, Kurt Elling and others.
