Linda Maich first heard Abbey Lincoln (1930 – 2010) in the mid-1990s when a friend suggested that she listen to Lincoln’s recording, A Turtle’s Dream (1995). There, Linda found the reflections of a brilliant songwriter whose wise philosophy of life resonated with her own. Lincoln’s strong, guileless voice captivated Linda’s heart. Linda was also inspired by Lincoln’s singular, carefree interpretations of standards of all stripes: Spirituals, Blues, French classics, and jazz. In 2014, Linda recorded Lincoln’s composition, Throw it Away on her own recording, Wild Life.

Inspired by Abbey: Linda Maich Pays Tribute to Abbey Lincoln is a homage to a woman of many passions who engaged in life as a musician, poet, actress and civil rights activist. Linda will explore Abbey’s songbook of originals and standards, and perform some of her own songs that have been informed by Abbey’s artistry.
