High School / Collegiate Series: The Jazz Workshop Orchestra – DSA | Dec 11
KUVO welcomes back The Jazz Workshop Orchestra from Denver School of the Arts on Tuesday, December 11 at 7 pm, under the direction of Dave Hammond. The jazz program at Denver School of the Arts has grown to 4 bands 2 big bands and 2 combos. The Jazz Workshop Orchestra (JWO) is the top band at the school and has earned many awards and accolades over the years. Recently, the band performed at the Charles Mingus High School Competition in New Jersey to rave reviews.
In 2017 DSA JWO won second place in the esteemed Essentially Ellington High School Competition in New York city at Jazz Lincoln Center. Earlier that same year the band was honored to perform at Chicago’s Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic with guests Brad Goode and Jovino Santos Neto, this is a performance opportunity only offered to the most outstanding groups in the country and is the first time a high school jazz band from Colorado has been honored. This year the band will make an appearance at the Colorado Music Educators Association convention in January and is planning on returning to New York for the Essentially Ellington competition.
