Heidi Schmidt Sings Blossom Dearie | Nov 20
Blossom Dearie was a vocalist, pianist, and composer from the bebop era known for her unique voice, definitive arranging style, and continent-spanning career. She studied classical piano as a child, before switching to jazz as a teenager. She joined Woody Herman’s vocal group, The Blue Flames shortly after the end of World War 2; later recording for Verve Records after meeting Norman Granz in Paris. She went on to be one of the first female founders of an independent record label, Daffodil Records, which is still in existence today. A constant on film and television soundtracks, her music is still swinging into the 21st Century. Her friend Tony Bennett honored her as an early influence and Elton John recently named the piano he uses in his shows after Blossom.
