Dianne Reeves performs at Five Points Jazz Virtual Festival 2020
Denver’s own Dianne Reeves will be joined by her pianist from New York City, Peter Martin for the Five Points Jazz Festival – on Saturday, May 16.
Denver Arts & Venues and Rocky Mountain Public Media (RMPBS, KUVO JAZZ and THE DROP) are pleased to present the Five Points Jazz Festival virtually on TV at 6pm, radio kicks off at 8pm and online on all of our platforms in lieu of the annual day-long event in Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood.
Dianne was the 2018 Monterey Jazz Festival’s Showcase Artist and performed in a variety of different contexts throughout the Festival’s 61st installment (September 21-23). Among the other headliners were Charles Lloyd, Norah Jones, Wynton Marsalis and Jon Batiste. Also, on September 20th the Festival’s Jazz Legends Gala honored Dianne. The event was co-hosted by Christian McBride and Terri Lyne Carrington—with a special performance featuring the Christian McBride Trio with Benny Green and Gregory Hutchinson. Dianne is the first woman to receive the Jazz Legends Award. (Previous recipients are Dave Brubeck, Gerald Wilson, George Wein, Jack DeJohnette, Wayne Shorter, Charles Lloyd, Chick Corea, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, and Terence Blanchard.) As Dianne was quick to point out, she will surely not be the last and is merely the first of many.
The virtual event will be presented as a two-hour, state-wide television broadcast on Rocky Mountain PBS, Saturday, May 16, 6-8p.m., a two-hour radio show on KUVO JAZZ Saturday, May 16, 8-10p.m., aired on KUVO JAZZ 89.3FM, streaming at kuvo.org, and on-demand video event on ArtsandVenues.com/5PJF. In addition, the two-hour video broadcast will be presented on the Denver Arts & Venues, Rocky Mountain PBS and KUVO social media channels. KUVO JAZZ will play segments from past festivals all day on Saturday, May 16 to celebrate the festivities. RMPBS will rebroadcast the program on Friday, May 22, at 8-10 p.m.
