The Vlad Girshevich returns to the Nocturne stage with Kevin Matthews on drums and Bill McCrossen on bass to present an evening of hard driving straight ahead jazz and original works in the classic trio format.
Vlad Girshevich, started his formal music training at The Uspenski School of Music in Uzbekistan and spent 11 blistering years studying classical music there. When he started experimenting with jazz in the 11th grade, his instructors gave him a hard time for being too creative with “free” interpretations. Vlad and his family eventually emigrated to the United States in the mid-90’s. His first gigs were in Boulder with the Nina Storey Band. Herbie Hancock heard Vlad playing at an event in Aspen and subsequently invited him to participate in the Thelonious Monk Institute at Jazz Aspen/Snowmass.
Vlad is now a Denver resident and a part of the scene playing the 5 Points Jazz Festival, The Santa Fe Jazz Festival, Vail Jazz Festival, and Windham Chamber Festival amongstothers . He has performed with Bob Berg, Stanley Jordan, Ernie Watts, Karen Briggs, Jerry Gonzales, Arturo Sandoval, and Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez. Vlad and his son (drummer Aleks Girshevich), recently recorded and released a record featuring legendary bassist Eddie Gomez called “Algorithmic Society”.
