The Meters were and will always be the quintessential New Orleans funk band. Lead by keyboardist Art Neville, The Meters sound was down-home and earthy. Most of their recordings were instrumentals, putting the emphasis on organic grooves and complex rhythms. The syncopated, layered percussion intertwined with the gritty grooves of the guitar and organ, created a distinctive and unmistakable sound that has been coveted by musicians and fans for nearly 50 years.
