Denver drummer and bandleader Dru Heller and his quartet present a special 90 minute set featuring the original compositions of Colorado jazz icons. Guests will hear new takes on works by Ron Miles, Bill Frisell, Art Lande, Joe Bonner, and many more.
Dru Heller started playing drums and was self taught until he began his formal musical eduation in college. He graduated from Whitworth University in Spokane, earning two degrees: one in percussion; the other in jazz performance. After first working in Spokane for a few years, he made the move to Colorado in 2013 to pursue a Master’s degree in jazz performance and pedagogy at the University of Colorado in Boulder where he studied with Paul Romaine, John Gunther, and his mentor Art Lande. In addition to being a bandleader in his own right, Dru is a first-call freelance drummer in Denver/Boulder, working often with Ben Markley, FLEX, The Democracy, Sam Williams, Matt Smiley’s Free Range and many many more! Dru is an affiliate music faculty member at Metro State University.
