Saxophonists Taylor Clay and John Gunther team up in this unique quintet setting that features some of Denver’s finest players.
Taylor Clay was born in Brooklyn, NY and began his musical journeys at the age of 13 and went on to study at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY. After completing his degree in Music Performance in 2012, he moved to Colorado to attend the Univeristy of Northern Colorado as a graduate student and teaching assistant. Taylor currently lives in Denver, Colorado and works as a busy freelance musician.
John Gunther is an accomplished composer, multi-instrumentalist, and music educator. With a restless and joyful musical spirit, he explores all forms of jazz from traditional to avant-garde, classical music, world and experimental electronic. He has performed or recorded with Dave Douglas, Ron Miles, Christian McBride, Bobby Watson, Wallace Roney, Larry Goldings,Tom Harrel, Dewey Redman, Joe Williams, The Woody Herman Orchestra, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and The Maria Schneider Orchestra. As part of New York city’s “downtown” music scene for many years, he produced five recordings for Creative Improvised Music Projects (CIMP) and is co-founder of the contemporary jazz ensembles, “Spooky Actions” and “Convergence.” John received his Ph.D. from New York University and is now a Professor and director of the Thompson Jazz Studies Program at the University of Colorado Boulder.
