Denver-born Sammy Mayfield doesn’t hail from the Delta, but he knows the blues intimately. Mayfield is 56, with a gravelly voice and a vast mental blues library that makes him a sort of walking Smithsonian. Mayfield is known for many things: his voice, his Sam Mayfield Blues Band, his Saturday-afternoon KUVO show, “All Blues With Sammy Mayfield,” and his management of more than three decades as the Musical Director for the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Soul Legend “ Solomon Burke.
Sammy Mayfield has a long and rich musical history during which the multi-talented guitarist/ singer/ songwriter has performed with many great blues luminaries such as Big Joe Turner, Big Mama Thornton. Blues Veteran Sam Mayfield started playing the blues early in the 1960’s.
