Join us for a Latin Dance night featuring Salsa Dura” “Mambo” Merenque, cha -cha, and more! This event includes a free Salsa dance lesson by Salsa Social Denver instructor Sarah Albertson.
Leader Francisco Mejia’s talents are not only as a musician but also as a bandleader and producer. At age 8, his father started teaching him how to play the bongos and he started to play the congas soon afterward. His style and flavor is influenced by his “NewYorkrican” upbringing as he was raised in New York City by Puerto Rican parents.
Francisco moved to Denver in the early eighties. At the University of Colorado-Denver (UCD) he joined the first salsa ensemble and earned his bachelor’s and teaching degree. During Francisco’s time in Denver, he has played with the late great Dizzy Gillespie, Randy Westin, Claire Fisher, Gato Barbari, Carmen Jimenez, Eddie Santiago, Adalberto Santiago Viti Ruiz, Van Lester, and Maelo Ruiz.
