In September of 1962 three great band leaders: Charles Mingus, Max Roach and Duke Ellington gathered in the studio to embark on a musical adventure and make their mark on the quickly developing post-bop modern jazz movement. The results are an intriguing mesh of voices – a tense conversation between instruments, sometimes bordering on argument, all the while showcasing the brilliance of each individual musician.
Denver pianist and composer Tom Amend is paying homage to Ellington, Mingus and Roach by curating this double drummer quartet show.
