Vocal legend MaryLynn Gillaspie returns to Caffè Sole Jazz Supper Club for her last performance of the year at Sole with her Stinking Hot Band of premier jazz musicians that will play her songbook with some rocking, high octane fusion in the mix. Per MaryLynn, “We’ll delve into a bit more funky/fusion fare, utilizing Mitch Chmara’s virtuoso guitar sounds as well as Peter Stoltzman on piano, Bill McCrossen on electric bass, and Andreas Schmid on drums. It’s a nice mix of fusion and some of the arrangements I’m known for – definitely will let the band shine with all they have to offer. We’re gonna stretch out a bit… they are excited to perform together.”
MaryLynn Gillaspie: as a founder of the internationally renowned and Grammy-nominated Rare Silk, she has shared the stage with many of the great jazz legends like Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner, Spiro Gyro, Mel Torme, Branford Marsalis and many more. She is truly one of my favorite singers and in addition to her polished vocal phrasing, she always delivers a soulful performance.
Mitch Chmara, from Chicago, may not be so well known locally, but he is one of the great virtuosic jazz guitarists anywhere. This will be a rare opportunity to see him. He has performed and/or recorded with: Richie Cole, Joey De Francesco, Billy Wallace Quartet (Max Roach, Clifford Brown), and Blues Jazz Vocalist Johnny Adams.
Peter John Stoltzman has performed and recorded with jazz luminaries such as Steve Gadd, Eddie Gomez, Allison Miller, Ron Westray, Yosvanny Terry, Tia Fuller, and many more. Peter won first prize in the Philips Jazz Piano Competition. He took his first full-time teaching position at the University of Illinois at Chicago and now lives in Denver where he teaches and performs full-time.
Bill McCrossen is one of the most in-demand bass players in Colorado. His range of mastery includes everything from classical music, to all forms of jazz and avant-garde or free jazz. He hails from NYC where he played the premier clubs with some of the best including Dave Holland, Michael Moore, George Mraz, and Eddie Gomez.
Andreas Schmid has performed throughout Europe and the US at different acclaimed jazz and rock clubs, as well as festivals. As a resident of Colorado, he is a very accomplished drummer who has performed and recorded with many of the great local Jazz, blues, and funk bands.
