What happens if you listen to your mentors when they tell you that you cannot be truly creative and listen to the other musicians fully when you have your head down looking at a chart?
What happens if you change up the band a bit and play with different musicians?
This project is about departures… departures from the need to have everything figured out… departures from full arrangements, safety nets, comfort zones, predictability, chart dependency, and stories we tell ourselves about our limitations.
Working with some of the most courageous musicians and mentors on the Front Range, Kat will explore freedom.
Kat Ellis is a Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA) trained musician who is authentic and accessible. Her gift of expression and storytelling using her emotive voice lets her cover tunes ranging from reflective to torchy, witty to sorrowful.
