This show celebrates the release of Julie Koenig’s debut album, Renaissance Woman. Julie is a jazz vocalist, pianist and songwriter in Northern Colorado. She and her bandmates, Amaya Arevalo, Domi Edson, and Mckenna Reeve, met through the acclaimed jazz program at the University of Northern Colorado. While completing her Master’s degree in Jazz Studies in 2019, Julie received a DownBeat Student Music Award for Outstanding Performance in the Graduate Vocal Soloist category. She has performed at several venues in the Northern Colorado area, both as a self-accompanied soloist and with other local jazz artists.

Renaissance Woman consists of both jazz standards and original music, and each song has personal significance to Julie. Her vocal style is most influenced by the blues, as well as singers like Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O’Day. Women’s empowerment is an overarching theme for this project; Julie is passionate about increasing the visibility of female musicians in the jazz industry.
