The Jenna McLean Quartet honors the iconic late jazz singer Anita O’Day (who would have turned 100 this year in the month of October).
Known for her high energy performances, leadership and incredible sense of swing, AnitaO’Day helped to shatter stereotypes associated with female singers and became one of the most respected jazz vocalists of her day. Honoring the spirit of this incredible jazz artist every Friday in October is the Jenna McLean Quartet featuring Ben Markley and Tom Amend on piano, Seth Lewis on bass and Jim White on drums. The band will cover famed songs such as Tea for Two, Body and Soul, Sweet Georgia Brown and many other well-known favorites.
Singer Jenna McLean is a Denver local with a Master of Music in Jazz Studies degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Currently working toward her doctorate in Jazz Studies, Jenna is also the recent Graduate College Winner of the Vocal category for the 2019 Student Downbeat Awards. She is also the recent recipient of a Pathways to Jazz Grant, which helped her to record and release her debut album “Brighter Day” in February of 2019.
“A young jazz vocalist delightfully blowing off the bullshit of the modern world leads with her old school soul and delivers the goods. [Jenna’s] pure performance is a welcome tonic to jaded ears that just want it true and direct.“ – Chris Spector, Midwest Record
