The Harry Drabkin – Ron LeGault Sextet will celebrate the life and music of Duke Ellington, one of the most revered and prolific composers of the 20th Century. The Sextet of Colorado’s luminaries is Harry Drabkin-tenor sax, Ron LeGault on pianists, and arranger, Derek Branach on trumpet, Brian Claxton on drums, Mark Simon on bass, and Jesse Garland on vocals.

Per Ron LeGault – Duke Ellington’s music has a simplicity of expression. There is a directness about it, maybe because that rhythmic pulse is ticking: He put the music down; we pick it up. Or his tonal reflection of beauty penetrates us.

He was classy, debonair, guest of royalty and presidents. Yet it is music that’s the voice of the people, that speaks to ourselves. Speaks of a subway train! The immortal Duke Ellington mantra: 

“It don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t got that Swing”

Harry Drabkin – saxophone was a student and faculty member at the Berklee College of Music in the late ‘60s, then traded his horns for a medical career. However, he dusted off the cases and made a comeback performing under his name at the Full Cycle Cafe and Bar, major jazz venues in Denver, the Five Points Jazz Festival, and the KUVO Performance Studio. His style is reminiscent of mainstream Coltrane along with mixtures of Dexter Gordon and other players of that era. As an aside, he still practices Oncology on a part-time basis.

Ron LeGault – pianist has performed in a variety of settings, from solo to various ensembles, as well as accompanying vocalists. His style ranges from a bit of funk and Harlem Stride to a touch of Horace Silver and be-bop. His quintet has been performing in the Denver/Boulder area for over a decade, and the annual performances of “Charlie Brown Goes to the Nutcracker” is a major Boulder Christmas attraction.
