Jazz birthed in Denver’s top EDM Club
In the summer of 2021, as clubs started opening up again, musicians weren’t working much — and most expectations of what was “normal” were long gone. Ben Weirich (keyboards, Synths), Alex Trujillo (Guitar), and Gregg Ziemba (Drums) found peace during this moment by playing basketball together. Around this time, a new manager of CoClubs called Ziemba with a hunger to try something new in one of his nightspots. The idea: A weekly jazz jam session at Milk Bar. Ziemba asked his musician-basketball friends if they’d like to be the first band to play a weekly residency in the dark and cavernous EDM and goth club — and Corner 3 was born. The mix has proven to be a symbiotic relationship. The house, drum and bass, and hip hop spun by DJs in the other rooms at Milk Bar have had a huge influence on the jazz that Corner 3 plays. Watching people dance to jazz in an EDM club is a beautiful thing.
