I am excited to return to the Muse Performance Space on Sat, Feb 4 for a swinging evening of country and alt-country tunes, performed with my son and my best friend and an awesome backup band!
On the set list: classic country songs from the 1950s and 60s (by Hoyt Axton,, the Everly Brothers and Patsy Cline) combined with newer tunes by alt-country singer/songwriters Jackie Greene, Gillian Welch, Neko Case, and folk artist Kieran Kane.
Joining me in two- and three-part harmony tunes are my son Kieran Boes and my frequent collaborator Paula Jayne Friedland. Backing us on these swingin’ tunes are Bill Kopper (guitar), Mark Diamond (bass), and Clare Church (drums) and Jane Uitti (violin)
I really loved returning to this music, which I used to perform regularly early in my career. Both genres express the hardships, heartaches, and triumphs of life, told from the perspective of everyday women and men. The country and folk traditions of family members singing together made it a natural choice for continuing a musical collaboration with my son and my best friend. Plus, these tunes just cry out for harmony vocals, my absolute favorite way to sing!
