Kapaemahu, Director Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu (Kānaka Maoli). This animation brings to life the story of four extraordinary mahu (two-spirit individuals) who brought healing arts from Tahiti to Hawai’i.
Stoerre Vaerie (Northern Great Mountain), Director Amanda Kernell (Sámi, Swedish). Elle has spent her entire adult life claiming she is Swedish from the South. Now, at age 78, she is pressured by her son to return to her Sámi homeland up North for her younger sister’s funeral.
Take, Director Victoria Hunt (Te Arawa, Rongowhaakata, Ngāti Kahungunu, Irish, English, Finnish.) Take (te reo Maori: issue, promise, challenge) weaves mana wahine (female knowledge), dance and archival materials to retell the story of the removal of the ancestral Maori meetinghouse, Hinemihi o te Ao Tawhito, from Aotearoa (New Zealand) to England in 1892.
