The International Institute for Indigenous Resource Management, Denver American Indian Commission and Denver Museum of Nature & Science are pleased to present the 2023 monthly Indigenous Film Series. This year we will have both in-theater and virtual events.
Please join Indigenous Film and Arts for two short films from director Nicolas Renaud (Huron-Wendat First Nation of Wendake), followed by a live Zoom conversation with the filmmaker.
Oursons (Bear Cubs). The stories that flow from the memories of Rolland Pitre Sioui, an elder in the filmmaker’s family, from the Wendat community of Wendake, speak to more than the rich life experience of one man. They echo a collective history, that of the dispossession of territory, of cultural assimilation, but also of resistance and rebirth. A short documentary essay “in blue and orange” for stories of water and fire. In French with English subtitles. (Nicolas Renaud, 2019, 9 min.).
Florent Vollant: I Dream in Innu. The soul of the Innu language is the land, water and forests of the fast-disappearing caribou. Through his music, Florent Vollant continues to make this language heard around the world. In French with English subtitles. (Nicolas Renaud, 2021, 5 min.).
Métamorphoses presents a portrait of a young Inuk woman seeking balance between two worlds: Nunavik, which she left at the age of eight, following a terrible tragedy, and Montreal where she currently lives. The film captures a moment in Olivia’s life when she discovers a work of art that resonates with her memory of her mother, and becomes a symbol that helps her find peace with her past. In French with English subtitles. (Nicolas Renaud, 2020, 18 min.).
A Zoom conversation with the filmmaker will follow the showing.
Please note that this is a live showing at Infinity Theater (east entrance of Denver Museum of Nature and Science)
