Classic Pianos presents 100 Nights of Jazz featuring the Harry Drabkin Quartet. “100 Nights of Jazz” is a virtual concert series, streamed live from the stage at Classic Pianos in Denver.
Enjoy an hour or so of jazz streaming and, as a special treat, Eric Gunnison is on piano. As you may know, he was Carmen McRae’s pianist and is nothing short of terrific. You’ll find the set list particularly enjoyable for this show.
Featuring Harry Drabkin on sax, Andrew Rose on bass, Eric Gunnison on piano, and Tom Tilton on drums.
If you like what you hear and want to donate, use PayPal with my address, drabkinh@gmail.com – everything goes to the other musicians, not a retired doc who’s still working part-time.
Harry Drabkin, a former Berklee faculty member, is solidly Coltrane (tenor and soprano sax), but also influenced by Dexter Gordon and other 20th Century contemporaries. On alto, you’ll hear aspects of Charlie Mariano, one of the most influential musicians from the Boston – Berklee environment, who spent much of his later career in Europe. Although Harry put his horns away for a number of years to pursue a career in medicine, he’s back in force.
As for the poster – Kokopelli Jazz Trio is by Jenny Armitage, who let us use it, and lots of her works are on her website (even a Kokopelli face mask).
