Since moving to Colorado, Domi has performed with artists such as Terrell Stafford, Charles McPherson, Greg Gisbert, Dawn Clement, Gayelynn McKinney, Paul Romaine, Annie Booth, Rico Jones, Jenna McLean, and many others. Domi leads the Domi Edson Trio, which in addition to having two albums out (Without the Re, Stories from Solitude), has performed at prestigious clubs around the US and Canada. We are lucky to be able to hear them on International Jazz Day!
In high school, Ray Brown thought of taking up the trombone, but could not afford one. With a vacancy in the high school jazz orchestra, he took up the double bass. Soon his career began to take shape. Major artists started to notice him. Ella Fitzgerald (whom he was married to for a time), Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker were just a few collaborators. From the mid-1970s until he died in 2002, Ray Brown remained one of the most prolific players of mainstream jazz during a time when the music was moving away from bebop. Ray Brown’s longevity is notable, in a time when many musicians in bop did not reach older age. We are excited to present an evening diving into Ray’s music and his impact on jazz.
