A comprehensive study of Hammond Organ techniques and their application to any keyboard
Saturdays 11:45 am – 1:15 pm January 16 to March 6.
In this course, Students will study the music of the masters of the Hammond Organ and discuss how we can apply these musical styles and contexts to the playing of any keyboard instrument. This class will focus on the recorded discographies of Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Richard “Groove” Holmes, Wild Bill Davis, Joey DeFrancesco, and Larry Young among others. In addition to an in depth study of the recordings left by these Hammond masters, we will address any questions that arise regarding jazz theory, improvisation, and practice techniques. (An organ is not necessary for this course.)
