Established in 2022, the Gavin Worland Big Band is an 18-piece jazz ensemble made up of the finest young musicians along the greater front range with an extreme love and passion for jazz, providing equitable opportunities of individual composition and solo features. Most members of the group are currently enrolled students in accredited universities in Colorado such as UNC, CU, DU, and MSU Denver, seeking to push the boundaries of the traditional jazz orchestra while contributing their own passionate and fiery musical ideas with fresh ideas.
This band is the brainchild of Gavin Worland, a 21-year-old, composer, arranger, educator, producer, and trumpeter with over 13 years of experience in music, currently studying at Metropolitan State University of Denver with a concentration in Jazz Trumpet. Some of his mentors include but are not limited to amazing musicians such as Shane Endsley, Greg Gisbert, Dawn Clement, Adam Bartczak, and many more of Denver’s finest musicians. The music being performed is nearly exclusively written and arranged for this band by Gavin and other members of the band, drawing influence from the writing of past and present greats such as Thad Jones, Steven Feifke, Annie Booth, Remy Le Boeuf, and the late great Ron Miles.
