Newman Center for the Performing Arts presents Compagnie Hervé Koubi in the June Swaner Gates Concert Hall.
Compagnie Hervé Koubi delivers a highly physical, stunningly fluid work that defies gravity. The 14 all-male ensemble hails from Algeria, Morocco, and the Mediterranean basin. Mixing, martial arts, and contemporary dance on the stage, the ensemble combines the powerful imagery of Asian art and Islamic architecture, with a diverse soundtrack that includes recordings by Kronos Quartet, Johann Sebastian Bach, and others. Since their US premiere in New York City at the City Center Theater’s Fall for Dance Festival, Compagnie Hervé Koubi has been filling concert halls across America and Europe.
In Denver, Compagnie will be presenting a compelling story of a 19th century Asian who comes to Algeria to bring his Eastern dreams to life.
“A stunning jaw-dropping fusion of acrobatics, gymnastics, b-boying, modern dance, and ballet.” – The Washington Post
