Visual arts and jazz music have always had a strong connection. One such connection is that of the paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat and the music of Charlie “Bird” Parker. While Bird made his mark revolutionizing the language of jazz primarily in the 1950s and Basquiat made his mark transforming the art world in the 1980s, the influence of Bird on Basquiat is evident.

Basquiat even said, “I wanted to be a jazz musician, but I couldn’t play anything. So I became an artist, and my paintings became my music.”

Both men were examples of African American excellence in eras that were surprising to them, and they continue to inspire countless artists to this day.

Join Dazzle and the Daryl Gott Quartet for this special event of the music of Charlie Parker and a live painting by artist Jazz Holmes.

The painting will be auctioned off at the end of the night!
