An in-demand saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator, Bobby Watson has built a long and lasting musical legacy throughout the years. His musical associations include Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Wynton Marsalis, Sam Rivers, Max Roach, and many more. A prolific force in the jazz world as a leader of highly-acclaimed groups such as Horizon, a quintet with drummer Victor Lewis and bassist Curtis Landy, and a nine-piece band called the High Court of Swing (a tribute group to Johnny Hodges). Beyond his passionate and lyrical playing, Watson is known as a world-class educator, having most recently developed and led the prestigious jazz program at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Today, Watson balances a busy professional life of teaching and performing in clubs, festivals, and performing arts centers across the world.
Bobby is joined on stage with a stellar band of Denver’s finest…Brad Goode, Eric Gunnison, Rico Jones, Ken Walker, and Harold Sumney in what will undoubtedly be an exciting evening in support of or Jazz for the Schools program – offered by Gift of Jazz at no cost to Denver Public School students grades 3-10.
Gift of Jazz brings the always-exciting, master saxophonist Bobby Watson and his Denver-based all-star band to Dazzle for a fundraiser to support our Jazz for the Schools program. The evening is dedicated to the memory of Shyrel Smith Hosseini, a Gift of Jazz past president and long-time jazz supporter here in Denver.
