Ebony Serenade: Celebrating the Music of Black Composers
In celebration of Black History Month, Purnell Steen, along with his remarkable and esteemed band, will again be presenting their annual show honoring black composers on Sunday, February 9 at 6:30pm at Dazzle. The group will perform a review of swinging jazz music of Ellington and Basie, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, saxophonist Charlie Parker and trumpeter Miles Davis, just to name a few. These local players keep things cooking with boundless joie de vivre, topped off with a healthy dollop of Wild West spirit!
The Five Points sound is alive and well today and the main keeper of the flame is pianist Purnell Steen and his group Le Jazz Machine.
